Arras

With its splendid historical centre around the beautiful arcaded Grand Place and its 17th century mansions, all painstakingly reconstructed after their almost complete destruction in the First World War, Arras is one of the prettiest towns in Northern France. Dominated by its distinctive belfry, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site, there is so much to see, and a host of bistros and restaurants offering affordable sustenance. Also, a very good base for visiting the surrounding First World War battlefields

LENS

.....and now for visiting the new Louvre Museum in neighbouring Lens, which is just a 15 minute train journey away (day trip return ticket will cost £7 per adult from FTS).
