Aix-les-Bains is a gracious, traditional spa town but with a more modern tone, set in lovely Alpine scenery. The heart of the town is the 19th century Thermes Nationaux which is the busiest spa in France. Boat trips can be taken across the lake to the Benedictine Abbeye d'Hautecombe. A remarkable little hotel, not only for its superb setting in a beautiful park just 200 metres from the lake but for its charm, gastronomy and friendly family atmosphere.

The town is easily reached by using the free bus pass issued by the hotel. Meals can be taken either in the main restaurant or under the trees in the park. The 20 simply furnished rooms are in a three storey house in the park with telephone, satellite TV and bathroom. There is no lift. Continental breakfast.
