Ardèche - Vals les Bains

There are 145 water sources in this Spa town, most of which have charming names, for example Camuse, Constantine and Rigolette. Most of the town's parks and architechture recall a little of the Belle Epoque and its 19th century heyday. The town boasts a casino and there is a market on Sundays and, in the summer, on Thursday mornings. Population: 3,500.

Very much of the belle Epoque era, this imposing hotel, set partially in woodland overlooking the new spa facility, is just a couple of minutes walk from the town centre. Gard - Sommieres

This is a small but charming medieval town possessing a chateau nestling amongst umbrella pines. Local events include a medieval fair in the spring and the Carmargue races and the town's Saint fete during summer. The local gastronomic speciality is escargots à la Sommieroise (snails!). Population: 3,600.

A recently converted railway station, this modern hotel provides a complete contrast. An impressive reception/lounge area leads to a pleasant breakfast/day room. There is swimming pool and most of the rooms have shower. Continental breakfast. Parking is available at the hotel.
