Vichy is a spa town owing its original fame to Napoleon 3rd who starting taking the waters in 1860. The original thermal baths dating from 1900 have now become a shopping centre but there are other meeting points such as Le Palais in the Parc des Sources. Other sites include the Opera, Convent des Celestins and the Castle Franc. The esplenade bordering the river Allier is a favourite with promenaders.
